Abstract
The article presents a commentary by its author, which readers can interpret in the light of the overall perspective on design-based research (DBR). The author believes that it is a useful complement to traditional research strategies such as laboratory studies and randomized clinical trials. He states that the commentary is intended as constructive feedback for scholars who are proponents of DBR. It also states that at this early stage of its evolution less ambitious claims about DBR, more careful delineation of its limited role in the spectrum of experimental methods, evolution of collective standards for what constitutes quality in DBR and focusing of the DBR community's efforts on issues of concern to practitioners and policymakers all seem appropriate next steps
