Abstract

Proceedings of the NATO Advanced Study Institute, Killarney, Ontario September 17-27 1988. Evidence is examined to suggest that the continental crust is exposed in cross-section at several key locations on the Earth's surface. Nearly all of the best known sections are represented including the Ivrea Zone, Calabria, the Kapuskasing Zone and Fiordland. The 28 papers, each abstracted separately, are divided between 6 parts. The first 5 parts cover the following: Phanerozoic sections; Precambrian sections; crustal composition and the role of fluids; faults, crustal deformation and emplacement mechanisms; geophysical structure and properties of the crust. The final section contains a synopsis and a general paper on crustal exploration strategy. -S.J.Stone
