Parabemisia myricae (Kuw.) is reported for the first time in Portugal. This species was detected in a sweet orange orchard in the region of Tavira (Algarve) in August 1993. It is the second aleyrodid to be reported on citrus in Portugal after the introduction of Aleurothrixus floccosus (Mask.) in 1977. In this paper preliminary data on its distribution in Algarve are presented and based on the information available about the geographical distribution, hosts, damages, bioecology, natural enemies and control measures, its future situation as a new potential citrus pest in Portugal is discussed.
