Abstract

This is an important book for us, the Galician researchers who participated in it and who want to disseminate our work. We hope it might stimulate curiosity among our colleagues in Galician universities and, by extension and proximity, in Portuguese and Spanish ones, for the things we are doing in the same wide and diffuse field of culture and communication. In any event, by using the English language as the means to convey our ideas, we are equally eager to make it attractive enough for academics and researchers from other national and transnational settings to discover first-hand our academic work and interests, as well as the findings and novel ideas that we are trying to share through this publication. The research included has arisen in an area of knowledge and debate that is undergoing a critical process of changes and reformulations. The technological revolution, which the field itself is undergoing, conditions its almost permanent process of recasting, updating and expansion. More specifically, the research articles published here (all except two) arise in a relatively new university education context, that of the Universidade de Vigo, which is still in transition, with the social sciences turning into communication sciences, and philological studies transforming themselves into cultural studies and translation studies. While the traditional linguistics-oriented philologies made room on the Vigo university campus for Translation and Interpretation Studies in 1992, something similar was happening with the incorporation of Audiovisual Communication Studies in 2004 to the Pontevedra university campus, which….
