Abstract

There is considerable genetic variability between the indigenous tamarind (Tamarindus indica Linn.) and that introduced from Thailand, at DNA level besides morphological distinction in the shape and size of fruits and seeds. This variability may be considered for its proper placement and assigning its status as sub-species/variety or cultivar.
