Using pharmacotherapeutics agents in older patients requires adequate knowledge of not only pharmacology but also of the pathophysiological changes associated with aging. The use of pharmacotherapeutics agents without this knowledge can result in increased morbidity and mortality in these patients. In this chapter we review essential pharmacotherapeutics principles and common psychopharmaciological agents that will aid us in optimizing the treatment of older adults with psychiatric disorders. © 2013 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
