Abstract

Finnish Au occurrences range in age from Quaternary placers to Early Proterozoic paleoplacers, volcanic- and sediment-associated massive sulphides, volcanic-associated vein and shear zone deposits, intrusion-associated deposits, skarn iron deposits and vein deposits as well as to Archean volcanic-associated massive sulphides, and vein and shear zone deposits. In this review, the total amount of in situ Au is estimated to be at least 90 t. On an industrial scale, Au is produced mainly as a by-product from base metal mining concentrates. Exploration solely for Au deposits is going on at present. © 1991.
