Abstract

The entire field of grinding should be considered from two points of view-stock removal grinding (SRG) form and finish grinding (FFG). All characteristics including response to cutting fluids are different for these two types of grinding. In SRG using a resin bonded wheel, the role of the grinding fluid is to keep the temperature of the first bond layer from reaching the softening point. In grinding for form and finish the grinding fluid has two major roles-to prevent transfer and buildup of metal on the active grain tips by contamination and to lower the temperature of the workpiece by cooling action.
