A History of Modern Immunology

Abstract

This book provides a detailed survey of the major advances made in the field of immunology in a period corresponding approximately to the last third of the twentieth century. In the first chapter, referred to as Pre-History, the Author, an experienced senior immunologist, briefly summarizes the preceding era often called "immunological revolution", in which the foundations of a new science, immunobiology, were laid down. The subsequent chapters (The History) then deal in detail with a number of topics within immunobiology, such as, the generation of antibody diversity, monoclonal antibodies, the major histocompatibility complex, antigen presentation, T cell biology, self tolerance, and autoimmunity.
