HOW DO PEOPLE LEARN?

Abstract

New competitive models and a step-change in the capability and potential of learning technology are creating new opportunities and imperatives for improving the effectiveness of learning delivery. There is a shift in focus to the individual learner. To assist human resource professionals manage this transition, the CIPD commissioned the Cambridge Programme for Industry to produce this review of what is currently known about learning. Some findings include: the major theoretical stances on learning are structured within four 'clusters' that describe what is common in human learning learning is deeply affected by the context in which it occurs e-learning has defined a new paradigm for learning: a way of working, studying and problem-solving that reflects the growing connectivity of people and learning resources This research report is intended to raise the level of debate - demystifying a complex topic - and to provide a better platform for considered action in the organisation.
