Abstract

PSpice calculations have been made to investigate the implication of non-ideality of coupling capacitors in the performance of multistage amplifiers. It is demonstrated that effect of non-ideality of coupling capacitors is very detrimental for the performance of these amplifiers. The leakage resistance leads to a bias disturbance appearing in the form of clipping in the negative half cycle of the output signal. It is very severe particularly for the small values of the leakage resistance. Thus considerable attention must be paid to ensure that the coupling capacitors used in the circuit design be near ideal, if not ideal. © Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
