Abstract

Dance and music together with gymnastics and letters formed the main branches of education of the antiquity. The protectress of dance and music was the Muse. Due to their significance teaching dance and music was compulsory in many cities. Musical instruments were divided into (stringed instruments), i.e. percussion instruments and, i.e. wind instruments. Out of the former the most important were (lyre) and (guitar). Out of the latter the most significant were (flute), with many variations, and (syringe). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
