Some isolates of P. syringae pv. maculicola were found to be virulent on A. thaliana while others were not. All 17 isolates of P. cichorii tested proved to be avirulent. Variation for resistance/susceptibility was also shown among A. thaliana ecotypes and mutants. Arabidopsis genes homologous to ones induced by fungal elicitor in parsley [Petroselinum crispum] have been cloned, although the function of many of the genes is unknown.
