Abstract

A brief survey is given of the International Stirling Engine Conferences (ISECs) since 1982, aimed at providing an insight into the international developments trends over the last 8 years. The discussion covers international participation, sources (industry versus academic), topics, and trends. The 1988 conference in Tokyo, the largest to date, is discussed in some detail.
