Abstract

Health discussions is among the top topic of discussion on social network. Numerous studies have turned to Twitter to collect their own dataset of tweets containing health mentions, for analysis. In this work we analyze Twitter dataset containing health mentions and find if it is good or bad to discuss health conditions on Twitter. Tweets with health mention could disclose health condition of the twitterer or of an associate. Health mention can be used as a joke or may be a news article raising awareness. Before mining Twitter for health mentions, it is important to understand the context or theme of the tweet. We propose to categorize the tweets into categories, with each category representing a different theme. We analyze the Twitter dataset with health mentions as a whole and analyze the twitter dataset categorized to find the advantages and disadvantages of the health mentions on Twitter.
