Abstract

The experiment was conducted to examine the effect of defoliation time of corn and spacing of peanut on yield component and yield of peanut in intercropping system during dry and wet season in Cikampek, West Java. This experiment, two factors were assigned, the first factor was defoliation time of corn with three levels (7, 14, and 21 days after tasseling) and the second factor was spacing of peanut with four levels (40x5 cm, 40x10 cm, 40x15 cm, and 40x30 cm). Maize was sowing at spacing of 160x30 cm (two plants/hole). Defoliation was carried out to all leaves below cob. This experiment used a randomized complete block design and all treatments were replicated three times. The results showed that, the best yield component and yield of peanut was obtained at the spacing 40x5 cm (2,50 t/ha) or 40x10 cm (2,25 t/ha) during dry season (watering was carried out on germination, flowering and filling of pod period). The component yield and yield of peanut werent affected by defoliation time of corn. The highest yield of peanut on 40x10 cm was highly determined by the number of pods and the weight of 100 seeds, whereas the spacing of 40x5 cm was highly determined by the weight of 100 seeds during dry and wet seasons.
