Abstract

An introductory review of the most important principles of electrochemical corrosion is followed by descriptions of failure by corrosion of screw assemblies in service. The effect of combined mechanical and corrosion stresses is considered. The possibilities and weaknesses of methods of corrosion protection are weighed. In a brief discussion of corrosion tests, the necessity of testing under conditions approaching those in service is emphasized.
