Abstract

G marcel, Who was a composer (he wrote about fifty melodies) once said that bach's cantatas had played a more important part than pascal's "thoughts" for his conversion. Music supplied his philosophical thinking with illuminating comparisons (cf. The end of "le mystere de l'etre"). G marcel worked out musical aesthetics, And a theory of aesthetical creation. The musician partakes of a world of ideas, Musical creation transcends the opposition activity/passivity. The present article, Unfortunately, Has been written before this volume was published: "l'esthetique musicale de g marcel" (aubier 1980).
