Abstract

This book contains papers written by leading philosophers, logicians and linguists. all the contributions have been written for the occasion of yehoshua bar-hillel's sixtieth birthday and their topics reflect his wide area of work, with language in focus. among the contributions in philosophy of language are ones by a j ayer on identity and reference and by l j cohen on how empirical is logical empiricism. essays in philosophical logic are contributed by j hintikka, robert martin, r stalnaker, r thomason, p woodruff and other philosophers. noam chomsky, manfred bierwisch and j j katz contribute papers in the study of linguistics.
