Abstract

This article provides background information related to informatics, both the broader field of informatics and the narrower subject field of legal informatics. Through electronic database searching and bibliographic analysis the author reconfirms that legal informatics in the United States is not yet a consolidated discipline. The disparate use of identifiers and descriptors by database indexers while indexing legal informatics articles is examined and discussed. Academic insularity is addressed as a factor in the lack of legal informatics research at United States colleges and universities. Collaborative research efforts between the law and information science communities are discussed and recommended. ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR
