The goal of this research is to map and to quantify the remainders of the vegetation covering the Caatinga Biome, on 2002, at 1:250,000 scale. The mapping will be obtained by visual and automatic interpretation of LANDSAT satellite images, field works and analysis of previous works. Thirty eight vegetal cover sheets of the biome had been produced having for base the IBGE classification system. The survey was complemented for the use of Digital Terrene Model and for diverse thematic maps. The mapping made possible to evaluate the most recent situation of the vegetation remainders, being useful to guide the adoption of politics for the biome preservation.
