A new system that requires more functions per unit area which drives more complexity into the interconnecting structure or printed circuit board (PCB) is introduced. PCB design and manufacturing capability ultimately determines what and how electronic components are used. Consumer demand for handheld items seems insatiable. New markets for PCBs are opening with the rapidly expanding use of organic substrates in semiconductor device packaging components such as a ball grid array and chip scale packages.
