Abstract

The lack of an accepted standard approach to the provision of caller location information is a serious shortcoming in IP telephony. This paper presents a novel approach to implementing this functionality without the additional infrastructure overheads typically found in comparable efforts. The proposed system achieves caller location identification using a series of SNMP requests that could be implemented on existing networks. Initial evaluation shows potential for further development as an alternative to other proposed solutions. © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2008.
