Abstract

Purpose: To assess professional burnout in human service, education, business and government professions. Administer to: Individuals 13 years and older Administration time: 10 – 15 minutes Scoring Options: Hand scorable Recognised for over a decade as the leading measure of burnout, the MBI incorporates the extensive research that has been conducted in the more than 25 years since its initial publication. This updated edition comprises three separate surveys, each focusing on a distinct work population. The MBI addresses three general scales: • Emotional Exhaustion: feelings of being emotionally overextended and exhausted by one’s work. • Depersonalisation: an unfeeling and impersonal response toward recipients of one’s service, care treatment or instruction. • Personal Accomplishment: feelings of competence and successful achievement of one’s work. Areas of Application This instrument can be used to assess the degree of burnout in a variety of job settings or for clinical, counselling or research purposes.
