Abstract
The author discusses viewpoints expressed at a conference of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). Librarian James Neal of Columbia University assailed the use of return on investment (ROI) as a metric for measuring library effectiveness. Mary Ellen Davis of the ACRL said it was crucial that libraries demonstrate how they are are contributing to their institutions.
