Abstract

Coal has a future. In conjunction with modern technology it is a permanent energy source. This is the case primarily because of the large and relatively reliable reserves, so that a future strategy for stable energy supply can be established on this basis worldwide, in particular also in the developing and emerging countries. It is an important task for the next few years to intensify the research and development activities in the field of "Clean Coal Technology" and develop models for the financing of technology transfer. Companies in the energy industry and politicians must cooperate in this respect. These theses were propounded by Starzacher at the "E-world of energy" exhibition in Essen on 13 February 2001.
