Abstract

Using the example of the management of an electric power supply system, the author considers several mutually contradictory requirements. Emphasis is on the reliable supply of energy to the customers as well as the economic generation and transmission of electric power. The importance of environmental factors is pointed out. The availability of analytic and mathematical methods for network analysis and maintenance is discussed.
