Abstract

The authors prove that generically a nonlinear autonomous system on a compact d-dimensional manifold has an observer of dimension 2d + 1. This is a consequence of the result that, for a generic d-dimensional nonlinear system, the state can be reconstructed on the basis of the 2d first derivatives of the output.
