Abstract

The semiconductor optoelectronics deals with the manufacture and applications of semiconductor building blocks capable of either transmitting or receiving electromagnetic radiation. The economic significance of this field is increasing, being already comparable to that of diodes or linear circuits. The prospects of the field lie mostly in the area of fiber optics, infrared technology and solar energetics.
