Abstract

This study examined the perceptions and attitudes of a group of parents on the discrimination of their children because of intellectual disability. We surveyed the opinion of 48 families, whose chil- dren were enrolled in a center for vocational training, concerning the degree of discrimination, forms of discrimination, and relationships with other variables. The results indicated that young with intellectual disabilities are victims of discrimination, that this discrimination occurs at school, home, labour and social environments and that parents generally adopt a passive attitude. The implications for practice are analyzed to stimulate the anti-discriminatory fight specially in these areas. Keywords:
