Abstract

Correction of the plantarflexed first ray as a result of peroneus longus musculotendinous contracture is commonly achieved through dorsiflexory osteotomy at the base of the first metatarsal or lengthening of the peroneus longus tendon at the lateral aspect of the hindfoot or fibular malleolus. In this techniques report, the author describes peroneus longus recession in the distal aspect of the lower leg based on topographic anatomical landmarks. This procedure can be used to correct soft tissue contracture of the peroneus longus musculotendinous unit. © 2009 American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
