Abstract

During the late 1950s and early 1960s, the construction approach changed from ineffective summer work to winter work, when freezing temperatures could be used to advantage in preparation of temporary access roads and working surfaces. Damage to the environment was thereby reduced, while project economics were enhanced through reduced construction costs. Chapter sections are on engineering considerations, construction in muskeg (organic terrain) and environmental considerations. -P.J.Jarvis
