Fuzzy control is an effort to mimic the thinking process of human operators. This paper overviews the current fuzzy control techniques from industrial engineering point of view. The emphasis is to introduce the concept of adaptability to industrial fuzzy controllers. This need is obvious. If fuzzy controllers are expected to be successful in industrial environments, then they should adapt themselves to inevitable changing operating conditioins as well as human operators do. This paper presents a new technique in which the knowledge of a fuzzy controller is updated to reflect the changing process and environmental conditions. © 1991.
