Abstract

That immunoreactivity of antibodies against synthetic polypeptides corresponding to different portions of protease nexin 1 (PN1) is present in senile plaques and reactive astrocytes in Alzheimer and aged brain is reported. This finding raises the possibility that protease nexin 1, which has two major activities (protease inhibitor and neurite-promoting), contributes to some of the neuropathol. of dementia.
