Equipment and tools required to carry out inlet valve trunnion bearing replacement at the Dinorwig pumped storage facility in Wales are described. The extensive replacement project was carried out without having to reduced pressure levels in the penstock. Steps involved in the bearing replacement are outlined. The procedure involves balancing water pressure on one side of the valve against a jacking system and pressure bolts on the other. Components needed to maintain this balance are described.
