Abstract

The article outlines the advantages and disadvantages of the various tools general practitioners (GPs) for measuring the severity of mental depression at the outset of treatment. The three tools for measurement are: the Patient Health Questionnaire, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and the Beck Depression Inventory second edition.
