Abstract

This study investigated the usefulness of gravity data in deducinginformation about thenear-surface geological structures which may be controlling geothermalactivity on the island of Vulcano.Gravity measurements were carried out along several profiles takenacross and around the Fossa crater. Aobtained for a simple two layer model including a dense rectangularprism. The dense material beneaththe crater may be the self-sealed volcanics under which geothermalfluids circulate, as inferred by othergeophysical studies.
