Bioassay studies were conducted to evaluate the relative toxicity of five new (diafenthiuron, acetamiprid, imidacloprid, carbosulfan, cartap hydrochloride [cartap]) and five recommended insecticides (endosulfan, monocrotophos, triazophos, acephate, cypermethrin) against the insecticide resistant population of B. tabaci, from cotton fields of Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh, India. While all the conventional insecticides had high LC90 values, much more than their recommended concentrations, among the new insecticides diafenthiuron was highly toxic, with LC50 and LC90 values of 0.000083% and 0.04%, respectively, and thus could be considered as a substitute to currently recommended insecticides, particularly in situations where the pest has developed resistance against conventional insecticides.
