Abstract

Evaluated the critical incident technique and its resulting behavioral indices with regard to 3 measures of reliability and 4 measures of validity. The behavior of interest was the job performance of small independent businessmen involved in pulpwood production. The interjudge reliability of the categorization process and the test-retest intra-O reliability based on responses to the critical behaviors were satisfactory. Low inter-O reliability was obtained. The content validity, construct validity, and relevance of the critical behaviors were judged satisfactory. Concurrent validity coefficients were significant at the .001 level. Results are discussed with reference to the problem of the observation of human behavior. (French abstract) (22 ref) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)
