Abstract

The stress of relocation for an elderly person can lead to increased physical and psychological problems, serious illness, and even death. A number of factors have been identified that appear to contribute to this stress. Occupational therapists who work with the aged have the training and skills needed to modify many of these factors and thus minimize their potentially harmful impact. A review of the literature on relocation stress and the application of this information to occupational therapy is presented.
