While it is important to have an informed knowledge of GIS problems in order to make efficient and effective use of the technology, it is perhaps more important to be aware of the difficulties involved in using remotely-sensed image data within a GIS framework. The main section of this paper is devoted to a survey of these difficulties, which provide an impediment to the more widespread use of remotely-sensed data among the terrestrial science community. -from Author
