Abstract

This paper presents the Remote Terminal Air-Conditioner Unit (A/C RTU) based on a microcontroller from Microchip Technology Inc., PIC family. This air-conditioner remote terminal unit can be remotely controlled from the computer for functions such as switch on/off, fan speed , swing mode and temperature adjustment. Besides that, communication can be connected to 32 units on multidrop network by the serial communication RS485 standard, which controls an air-conditioner in distance by direct or remote control from computer via twist pair. This research aims at the remote monitoring and controlling of air-conditioner in switch on/off, temperature, fan speed, etc. Moreover an air-conditioner remote terminal unit is cooperated in the Power Management System. © 2006 ICASE.
