Response to the "Abuse of the Child Sexual Abuse Accommodation Syndrome."

Abstract
Comments on R. C. Summit's (see record 1994-02082-001) article on the Child Sexual Abuse Accommodation Syndrome (CSAAS), stating that the CSAAS has simply summarized clinical phenomena seen frequently by those who work with sexually abused children. Its use and abuse in the courtroom are both implicitly based on a myth: that children normally disclose sexual abuse when it happens, in a convincing way, and without retractions.
