Septoria unedonis var. vellanensis - a causal agent of leaf spots on strawberry-tree.

Abstract

S. unedonis var. vellanensis is reported as the causal agent of leaf spots on the strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo) in Calabria and Sicily, Italy. The fungus produced spots on both leaf blades. The var. vellanensis of S. unedonis was identified on the basis of long pluriseptate asexual spores (as much as 80 µ long). The disease was reproduced by inoculating a conidial suspension of the pathogen onto the leaves of young strawberry tree plants. Control measures are suggested.
