Abstract

The objective of this testing is to determine whether Geogard SX, a silica scale inhibitor, will be effective in reducing the maintenance cost of geothermal systems. A pilot test facility was constructed to simulate the Palinpinon I pipeline. Results of the Geogard SX pilot testing at the Southern Negros Geothermal Production Field showed that the silica inhibitor was able to retard silica deposition. With a 1 ppm treatment for a brine containing 800 ppm silica, Geogard SX was able to limit the particle size of the silica deposits, but it was unable to disperse completely.
