Abstract

This paper presents static bending analyses of symmetrically laminated quasi-isotropic super-elliptical thin plates. Calculations were performed by using the Rayleigh-Ritz Method based on the Classical Laminated Plate Theory. Bending of 24 different uniformly distributed lateral loaded symmetrically laminated quasi-isotropic super-elliptical thin plates was examined parametrically for 6 different aspect ratios (both a/b and b/a). The varying parameters were lamination type, aspect ratio and super elliptical power (n). Boundary condition was assumed to be clamped and simply supported at the edges of plates. Selected numerical examples were compared with the results of the Finite Element Method (FEM) software package ANSYS. Obtained results are close to each other. Convergence was studied, validation of isotropic case, effects of thickness and geometry were examined. The results obtained are presented in tables for the use of composite ship designers.
