Abstract

Examined stress coping and mental health of nurses in emergency services. Ss were 66 female nurses in Beijing Emergency Center and 56 female nurses in general hospitals in Beijing, China. Ss were assessed with the SCL-90 (Z. Wang, 1984) and the Coping Style Questionnaire (J. Xiao, 1999). Psychological symptoms and types of coping styles (matured, immature, and mixed) were studied by using group comparison and correlation analysis. The results show that the nurses in emergency services had better mental health status compared to the nurses in general hospitals; the mental health status of nurses might be closely correlated to their coping styles.
