Abstract

The author presents an analysis of the treatment of proctological patients, admitted to his hospital for a 32 yr period. The total number of patients was 21,590, 1,702 of them were treated for rectal cancer, and 1,250 of these (73.4%) were radically operated upon. Three basic types of radical surgery performed by the author are described, as well as the method of postoperative management of the patients (chemotherapy, etc). A survival over 5 yr was noted in 46.5% and over 10 yr in 18.1% of radically operated patients.
