Abstract

Rhantus vicinus (AUBE, 1838) and R. blancasi GUIGNOT, 155, are redescribed and included in a probably monophyletic group (shared autapomorphy: anterior angles of pronotum as in Fig. 5a, b). A third species belonging to that group is described from Ecuador: R. crypticus sp. n. The latter and R. blancasi are sister species, both are regarded as the sister group of R. vicinus. - Rhantus luederwaldti ZIMMERMANN, 1923, is considered to be a junior subjective synonym of R. duponti (AUBE, 1838). The female of R. souzannae BALKE, 1990, is described for the first time. A lectotype is designated for Dyticus (sic!) nitidus BRULLE, 1838, which is a primary homonym of D. nitidus F., 1801. The preoccupied name is replaced by orbignyi nom. n. The lectotype designation for that species by TREMOUILLES (1986) is considered to be invalid.
