Abstract

This essay reviews the new technologies that have been harnessed in the collection of information and how they have been incorporated into the production of intelligence. When introduced, each of these technologies provide a significant advantage to collectors but, as Richelson explains, each of them is subject to countermeasures that limit their effectiveness.
